We still have power, although I don't know why. The trees in our yard are coated with ice. Off and on all day the power went out and then came right back on. Every time I went to the kitchen I filled another container with water - our pump stops working if we lose power.
This storm doesn't begin to compare with the ice storm of January 1998, but for 200,000 people in southern Maine it means they will be without power for two to four days. From the coverage on tv, Maine wasn't as hard hit as New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Today is definitely a milestone with T's 21st Birthday. Celebrate in the midst of winter and have a wonderful time!
I read about the ice storm in New England, and thought of you and other friends there. I recall an ice storm here in Michigan that put us out of power (in midwinter) for more than a week. It was -- oddly enough -- a fun and interesting experience, although we had a wonderful working fireplace, plenty of wood, and were still able to feed ourselves. It reminded us of how much we took for granted. But a week of that was MORE than enough to learn the lesson!

I hope your power stays on, Sharon, and those in your area without power get restored quickly. We've had our fair share of power outages, but lately the incidents have been down. I used to have a power outage power supply in my cabinet, including a sterno stove, flashlights and candles! Hang in there!
